"Fall" into...what?

Years ago, I learned English (not my first language). Seasons are interestingly named in English. For example, take "spring". What's that about? Is it a time to be coiled up like a spring... or perhaps to "spring" into something (whatever might that be)? That said, here we are at the start of the season of "fall". Fall into...? Fall for...?Lately as I've been thinking these silly yet serious thoughts, I have considered this "fall" as a spiritual season. How will I "fall into" love with Christ…See More

"I love this. When we resist change, how often are we truly shunning Christ and the Spirit as they try to move us from one place to another? Isn't it wonderful to listen with someone else's ears?"

Trans-it-...tion - hmmmmm...

Transition...Transitional...Transitioning...So what is it exactly that's in "transit"?A 'learner of English" posed some interesting questions a few days ago as I tried to describe what a "transitional minister" was. He shared that "trans" told him something was going somewhere. Maybe that something is the "it", as in "trans....it".When I pronounced "tion" for him, an AHA look came across his face. "I know what that is; I've heard that before! That's when a person is kicked out, when all others…See More

Intersection...of what? Where?

I've been thinking a lot about the word "intersection" lately. How many intersections can you think of in your life? There's where your "home self" meets your "public self", never mind the interface points between the different faces of your "public self".... Let's see...how about your public grocery store self and your driving in rush hour self (maybe better not to go there...!). Your "at work and/or school self" and your "church self"...Like it or not, these are different facets of our…See More

Ephesians 3:7-21 (The Message)
This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God's way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities. And so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ. My task is to bring out in the open and make plain what God, who created all this in the first place, has been doing in secret and behind the scenes all along. Through Christians like yourselves gathered in churches, this extraordinary plan of God is becoming known and talked about even among the angels! All this is proceeding along lines planned all along by God and then executed in Christ Jesus. When we trust in him, we're free to say whatever needs to be said, bold to go wherever we need to go. So don't let my present trouble on your behalf get you down. Be proud! My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit--not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength-- that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. God can do anything, you know--far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Glory to God in the church!

Lay it Down! (Palm Sunday Thoughts)

Posted on March 27, 2010 at 4:30am 0 Comments

In Scripture, people waved palm branches to welcome Jesus to Jerusalem on His final arrival(Mark 11, Matthew 21, Luke 19, and John 12).

In addition, they laid their coats/outer garments on the road as sort of a “red carpet” welcome for Him. People in that day had one outer coat/cloak, so they were laying down an item of importance to be walked over by the donkey (think hooves, and road dirt, and perhaps donkey…well, let’s call it donkey “residue”, shall we?

What do we lay down to…

sure thing. I happen to have 8 on hand so I can sign and send those right away. Let's say $15 each, shipping included? Would make for $120 total. That'll cover my costs and allow me to order more.
