Help!

Prayers please as Disciples in the MId-America region consider new ways of being Church in covenant partnership this fall. Among the many pieces of our own transformation is a proposal to help at least 50 of our 253 congregations to embark on a two year transformational journey, choosing and making use of tested processes (and effectively supported throughout those processes) and choosing ways to make use of an ambitious region-wide communications strategy in partnership with Visionworks…See More

What IS this "Living Bread from Heaven?"

John 6:51 “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." Being raised Roman Catholic my first exposure to these words was in preparation for my first Holy Communion.  I was seven years old and Sister Ann Marie – a 20 something Dominican had the impossible task of helping 30 children who, according to James Fowler (Stages of Faith), lived in a world divided neatly into good…See More

Didn't See It Coming!

Jesus answered, “I assure you, unless someone is born anew, it’s not possible to see God’s kingdom.”.He didn't see it coming!  Nicodemus - apparently interested in a friendly, intelligent conversation with a rising Jewish star (and a possible threat to the authority of the Sanhedrin) - completely misses the compliment that Jesus pays him.Or does he?  As a member of a very elite group of religious scholars and leaders Nicodemus is no stranger to nuance and subtlety.  Jesus owns the observation…See More

Reflection on Mary Magdalene's visit to the Tomb

20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. Their first day of the week was Sunday.  Ours is Monday, or, at least that is a more accurate description of the setting that Easter morning. Not a day off for reflecting, worshiping, or leisurely spending time with family.  In first-century Palestine it was back to the daily grind and for the 99 percent it was particularly tough living. For…See More

When It Starts to Make Sense . . . I've probably gotten off track

Have you noticed that the trouble with transforming a congregation, region, or denomination is that we are often motivated by a crisis that threatens to unseat us from where we are already comfortable and in control? Is anyone else just a bit miffed after learning that even the best technological approaches fail when I try to engage in this work without any intention of becoming - myself - transformed? Sitting through workshops at the Children's Welcome conference today with a focus on forming…See More

While Waiting for the Green Light: What About Core Competencies for all Disciples in Our Care?

I need your help! Really. While reflecting on the 16 Core Competencies for ministry listed in the revised Theological Foundations and Policies and Criteria of Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) some of us began to wonder, "Why not expand and hold out those core competencies more widely as a way to focus our current practices of nurture for all Disciples?"I have taken the liberty of posting a work in progress on our area website with a very sincere invitation for colleagues to…See More

"I appreciate your questions and observations. Were we to start a new congregation anytime soon I would encourage that we meet in public spaces but not only a church but as neighbors. One of my favorite places to visit is The Landing in Eagle, Idaho.…"

While Waiting for the Green Light: Lectio on Colossians 3:1-4

Karen, the lay Catholic spiritual director leading 13 of us Disciples in a prayer retreat at Conception Abbey, invites us to break into groups of 3-4. We will engage in lectio divinaas a small group. It is 8:45 PM. Despite being tired, we all seem to beengaged, though for some this immersion in monastic life is a bit like visitinga foreign country. We shamble over toform our groups in separate spaces. In our group Paul reads from Collosians 3:1-4. "So if you have been raised with Christ . . ."…See More

Hi Bill,

Thanks for joining The Intersection. We're glad you're here, and we hope that you will help us to grow and develop this community.

If you're interested in knowing more about The Intersection, here are a couple of links to discussion posts:

- What is The Intersection?
- I joined The Intersection. Now what?

We also have a set of Community Guidelines we ask members to abide by.

One great way to get started is to look through the Members to see who else is here. You'll probably find some familiar names and faces -- you can send them a friend request. You can also look for members with common interests. Don't be afraid to introduce yourself by leaving a comment on their page, or sending a friend request.

Groups are another great way to meet people with common interests. We have more than 30 groups, but if you don't see one that interests you, feel free to start a new one.

Please visit The Intersection often, and let us know how we can improve your experience here. Again, thanks for being a part of this community!
