Liberation Theology

The Historical Jesus developed a social discourse that still to this day challenges our social and political belief systems. Liberation Theology was created by latinamerican theologians as a response to the US imperialistic agenda of economical explotation now known as Neo-Colonialism. The Banana Republics are the most known case. In 1980 Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero was killed in El Salvador by CIA private paramilitary while he was offering mass. His assasination served as fuel for many Liberation Theologians in Latin America and around the world. The US established since the 20's and 30's Neo-Colonies by helping political figures reach power, in Haiti the Duvaliers, in Chile, Pinochet, in Cuba, Batista, in Dominican Republic, Trujillo, in Nicaragua, Somosa, in Panama Noriega. These Dictators killed thousands of innocent people in Latin America. The results of these operation produced a lot of wealth for the dollar as a stronger currency giving the US the control of the latinamerican economical markets. The wealth taken from latin America was so big that the US entered into what is known as the Golden Age.

Thanks for your comment Richard, I've been giving conferences on the subject for years. If you need my help we can arrange a visit to the wonderful state of Virginia. As a matter of fact, I gave a conference this holy week about this subject with a Gay/Lesbian Church that wanted to hear what Liberation Theology has to say about their own struggle.

Thanks for calling our attention to Liberation Theology. For the past two weeks our Sunday School Class at FCC, Lynchburg, VA discussed the missional role of the Church in view of US imperialism and wonder about our role in missions during this century.
