Pamela

Thanks.  I'll give you a call next week and maybe we can compare notes.  Our situations might be different in some ways: what I'm mainly worried about is keeping this place going given the scarce resources.  I'm also short on leaders.  Cottage Way is a really, really good church, a good place for my people, but I don't know how to keep the place going.

Neal,

Your congregation sounds much like mine.  We also have long-time members who are the primary source of support for the church, both financial and in leadership.  However, I give them great credit for being welcoming of those who are struggling.  It is continually a challenge.  I doubt that I have any answers, but I'd be happy to have a conversation with you.  My office phone is 909-885-6534, and I'm usually in the office from 9-1 Pacific time.

The church and the people I serve have what I guess you could call inner city problems: mental illness, substance abuse, little money, little education, etc.  Some days I think I'm in way over my head and I would like to discuss things with anyone in a similar situation.

Glad to see this group and opportunity to discuss and listen in to other Disciples comments and concerns.

Not sure there will ever be a "silver bullet" solution to losing DisciplesWorld. That is, there may be a whole host of publications electronic and otherwise for a while... Check out the history of the Disciples. a wide range of pubs developed with the denomination. It settled into a single print piece, only after nearly 200 years... only to atomize again on the medium we call the Internet. Intersection is a good partner in the wider communication challenge... and I hope there are some ways for it to self-organize around the needs of the wider community. But I hope we see other emergent possibilities (like D'mergent: http://dmergent.org/) as sibling efforts...

I like Kevin's idea, but...my congregation in which the church and the co-pastors (my wife Julie and I) own more computers than the rest of the congregation combined will not be participating! But I do enjoy the site! I'm disappointed that are old friends at Heart of the Rockies in Fort Collins haven't caught on yet, though.

Hey, Kevin, I like that idea! I am working with the survey results right now, and hope to share those today or tomorrow with anyone who is interested.

I'm also excited to see new blogs, communication, and collaboration popping up already, like the [d]mergent blog.

In 2010, with the demise of the Disciple magazine, let's make this website THE Premier method for communication among Disciples and the wider church community. Happy New year to all!
