Is anyone into poetry writing? I am currently trying to get some of my body of work published through an agent. As anyone knows, who has gotten into poetry, not many people read, let alone, buy books of poetry. Still, that genre calls me. My current models are Kathleen Norris (who spoke at the Week of Compassion banquet a week ago at the Assembly) and Mary Oliver. To me, they are the ultimate in connecting the natural world and the religious impulse. Any body else going the same direction?

Rick,

I like how you take a very small thing and notice. The first requirement of a poet, to see, to hear, to be present, then to describe. Very nice. Thanks.

Here is one I finished (if a poem is ever finished) just two days ago.

THE TIME FOR STILLNESS COMES

It is September, already,
and leaves—here and there—
on the crabapple are fiery red,
red amidst the green, telling us
the truth about the fall,
causing some hearts to fail,
those who fantasized
summer forever.

The red is so beautiful,
and will, before long,
coax the green leaves
to follow. Do not be harsh
with the red leaves,
they are preparing us,
showing us how filled with grace
can be the days
from youth to stillness.
